First off, the OGB Board and I hope everyone is healthy and safe. We have some very exciting news to share with you all in regards to the upcoming 2021 season and the future of Oxford Golden Bears football and cheer.
Given the success of the season, Bob McLaughlin and Denis Hulme from the Kennett-Unionville Titans organization quickly began conversations with the participating organizations on making this a long-term and sustainable league. They prefaced the opportunity to have a league that is not in the full control of a discretionary executive board, but rather governed by the equally weighted hands of each organization.
With all that being said, the OGB board has made the decision to leave the Bert Bell Memorial Conference and join the newly created/highly touted Independent Youth Football League (IYFL). The OGB board went through a deliberate and thorough process to reach this decision, and feel the opportunities heavily outweigh the risks. The IYFL will be part of the American Youth Football (AYF) national affiliate, with potential opportunities to compete at the regional/national level.
We are collaboratively working with the other organizations on the football and cheer side to create the by-laws, rules and overall structure of the league, putting the focus back on the kids. For the 2021 season there will be 13 organizations:
- Oxford Golden Bears
- Avon Grove Wildcats
- Kennett-Unionville Titans
- Brandywine Youth Club Bulldogs
- Marple Newtown Tigers
- Haverford Freedom
- Rose Tree Colts
- Ridley Park Parkers
- Sharon Hill Ramblers
- Cobbs Creek Cats
- Chester Panthers
- Southwest Philadelphia Wolves
- Sharon Hill
NOTE: The schedule will be designed to mitigate travel as much as possible.
The board is very excited for this opportunity for all of our football players and cheerleaders! We will disseminate more information as we receive it and please feel free to reach out at any time with any questions, comments and concerns.
